An Engineer's Vision of Love

Version 1.0a

destroyed

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Version 1.0 b
The probability of falling in love with a wrong person is 1/2
The probability of being at the wrong place is 1/2
The probability of living at the wrong time is 1/2
Assuming the above 3 events are independent, therefore, the probability of falling in love with a person at a wrong place at a wrong time is 1/8. We would be happy 7/8 of the time IFF* love is a simple YES or NO logical question. However, our probability of being happy is less than 7/8 since the 3 events are not independent and, unfortunately, chained. Therefore, if you fall in love with a wrong person, then you're destined to be unhappy. In other words, We would be happy only 1/2 of the time. Plus, if you study PROBABILITY too much, you're definitely DOOMED!!!
Version 2.0
Well, in fact, the situation is much worse. We know that:
The probability of falling in love with a wrong person is 1/2
The probability of being at the wrong place is 1/2
The probability of living at the wrong time is 1/2
While they are chained, their negative isn't. That is, falling in love with a right person, at the right place and at the right time is the only solution for happiness. Therefore the probability of happiness is only 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/8. So if love is only a simple yes or no logic question, you are destined to be happy only 1/8 of the time, and unhappy 7/8 of the time.
Version 3.0
If in our lives, the probability of falling in love with a right person (event A) is P(A),
the probability of living at the right time (event B) is P(B),
and the probability of being at the right place (event C) is P(C),
Since the above events are independent, (accepted in version 2.0 by Eric Hu)
If love is simply a YES or NO logical question, and we need 2/3 (> 3 out of 5 fingers [see Appendix 1]) of the above events to be happy, the probability happiness is
P'(happy) = P(A n B) + P(A n C) + P(B n C) - 2 x P(A n B n C)
= P(A)P(B) + P(A)P(C) + P(B)P(C) - 2 x P(A)P(B)P(C) (by def. of independent events)
Suppose P(A) = P(B) = P(C) = 1/2,
then P'(happy) = 1/2, the same result obtained in version 1.0b
However, based on the postulate that our lives are divided into four parts:
- Human life (event H)
- Donkey life
- Doggy life
- Monkey life
(don't bug me about this postulate [see Appendix 2]. if you've got a problem please deal with Ellen Yeh directly)
The probability of being happy is actually less than 1/2 because falling in love with someone else during
the donkey, doggy, or monkey life would definitely come down to tragedy. Since most people are more
likely to fall in love with someone during their human lives, if the probability of falling in love during the
human lives is N times greater than the probability of falling in love during the remaining parts, the
probability of being happy is
P(happy) = P'(happy) x [N x P(H)] / [P(~H) + N x P(H)] (note: def. of probability functions)
which approaches P'(happy) as N grows large.
So,
while (you are still living a human life)
do try hard~~! // this while loop will increase N, and you'll be more likely to be happy
if ( you ain't living a human life anymore )
then hopefully happiness has been fixed onto ya.
else,
good luck man... (you're destined to grief)
Note:
By speaking and acting in the above way, one will never get a bf/gf... so if you study engineering too much, you're definitely DOOMED~~
